About

A bit about me.

Kia ora! I’m Michaela, a designer and illustrator based in Napier, New Zealand. I’ve recently completed my Master of Design, where I explored how creative practice can support care, connection, and deeper engagement with nature, minds, and ideas.

My career has included roles across local councils, boutique advertising agencies, start-ups, established media, and Air New Zealand.

Guided by curiosity and a strong sense of purpose, I use design to support communities and meaningful causes, with a focus on conservation, futures thinking, and mental health.

Outside of the field I love good people, good food and dogs, all dogs.

My practice spans both commercial and purpose-led design, including:

  • Visual storytelling across print, branding, campaigns, and digital content.

  • Illustration and design for climate, care, and mental health projects.

  • Educational, participatory, and community-based experiences.

  • Exhibition, publication, and spatial design for public engagement.

  • Creative strategy and concept development for values-led initiatives.

  • Resourceful multitasking and imaginative problem-solving (a.k.a. parenting).

Past clients include Air New Zealand, MediaWorks, Auckland Council, and more.
